An ashram in the hills, not a tourist stop

Kainchi Dham sits where two Kumaon hills meet in a scissor-like cut — which is where the name comes from — on the Nainital–Almora road, beside the Kosi river. Neem Karoli Baba, revered by devotees as an incarnation of Hanuman, built the ashram here in 1964, and it's where he spent his final years.

Steve Jobs meditated here in 1973. Mark Zuckerberg, Julia Roberts, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have all made the same walk up from the parking area since. Every 15th June, thousands gather for Pratishtha Divas, the ashram's foundation day.

Two ways to visit

Both are built around darshan timing at the ashram, not a fixed clock — mornings are quieter, and the mela on 15 June draws large crowds. Tell us your dates and group size and we'll confirm a price.
